Headache vs. Migraine: What’s the Difference?

Headache vs. Migraine: What's the Difference?

While many people use “headache” and “migraine” interchangeably, the two are actually different. Headache may just be a symptom of an illness. On the other hand, migraine is the illness itself. If you are visiting a neurologist in Boca Raton, Florida, you have to know the difference between the two to help the medical practitioner make an accurate diagnosis.

Headache vs. Migraine

You should be able to tell if what you are feeling is a headache or migraine according to their characteristics. For headaches, you typically suffer from pain around your forehead. This pain is often accompanied by mild, dull pressure. A headache can be incidental and non-recurring. It doesn’t last long, too. You won’t suffer from any other associated symptoms, and you can deal with headaches by drinking lots of water, taking the right medicine, and getting plenty of rest.

When you are suffering from migraines, you feel an immense and painful throbbing on the side of your head. It is often accompanied by nausea and dizziness. Migraine is recurring and can typically last for a couple of days, even when you take migraine medication in Florida.

While all migraines may feel like bad headaches to you, remember that not all bad headaches are migraines. If you are not sure, it is better to consult with your doctor.

Boca Raton Neurologic Associates can also be of help to you. If you need a consultation regarding migraines, headaches, and even nerve pain treatment, do give us a call. We will be happy to serve you.
